History

It started in 1984 when Southeast Baptist Church of Murfreesboro answered God's call to the Lakota people and began working in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.  This year will be the 24th year of ministry to the Lakota people of Pine Ridge.

Northside Baptist has been a part of this mission to the Lakota people on since 2000.
The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is one of the poorest areas in the United States. A typical Native American can expect little in his future. The average male dies at age 48 and women at 53.

Jobs are few and pay little. Most men have little to do and drugs and violence are commonplace.

Christianity is merged with Lakota beliefs and the result is neither Christian nor Lakota. The strongest Christian influence in found in the Catholic Church which tolerates a merging of Christian beliefs with Lakota spiritualism.

We believe that when these people (as is true with all people) turn to God and recognize and accept the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ, God changes man in a supernatural way.  Our focus is to bring men, women, and children to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  We do this with whatever God places in our hands to use as a tool to become "fishers of men".
